Remove "The Disk is Write-Protected" from USB Drive


Cannot format or modify data on your USB drives because it is write-protected? Try this methode  before you format the drives with others software. This methode using the registry tweaks to enable or disable writing data to USB drives.

Remove a Write-Protection from USB Drive via Regedit.exe


  1. Open Registry Editor
  2. Navigate to the following key:

    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies.

  3. Step 3: In the right pane of StorageDevicePolicy, double-click on WriteProtect to modify it.


  4. Step 4: To remove write protection, change Value data from 1 to 0, click OK.
    value data = 1 enable write protection
    value data = 0 disable write protection
